How can I search for qualitative research articles?
There are search terms you can add to your search to try to narrow your search to qualitative articles. For example, in CINAHL, there is a CINAHL Heading for “Qualitative Studies.” You can add this to your search. There is also a heading for “Phenomenological Research.”
In the Clinical Queries menu in the Advanced Search in CINAHL, one can select Qualitative – High Sensitivity, Qualitative – High Specificity, or Qualitative – Best Balance to retrieve various qualitative studies. To retrieve all, click on shift and select all.
High Sensitivity – the broadest search to include ALL relevant material. It may include less relevant materials.
High Specificity – the most targeted search to include only the most relevant result set, may miss some relevant materials.
Best Balance – retrieves the best balance between Sensitivity and Specificity.
